2 Fer 1

Here's the song I wrote this weekend. It's really, really short.

So I'm supplementing this blog entry with a souped-up version of the song I posted on Friday.

It's one of those thing where, with I'm Almost Hating Her, I know what the song's about, and yet I sort of don't, at the same time. I guess I do know what it's about, but I'm not sure how much I've experienced it, myself, so I'm not sure if that's what it's about or not.

Hah, hah, hah, Just under the wire

Click here to Download stupid_and_mean.mp3 . I just recorded this one in record time today. Actually, it's not a complete recordin' cuz, like, I still need to add bass to it. It's a new wizard rock song sung from the point of view o' the bloody baron, if you know the story. If you don't, I think it's an easy enuff song to follow cuz it's one of those unrequited love songs sung from the point of view of the person who kills the person who does not return the person's affections. You know the kind I'm talking 'bout.

Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah

I'm still dumb, indecisive-poops. No, man. I'm 2 lazy 2 put songs on my disky drivey thing, so the only one I really have on it outta the songs I listed is the one that's not about masturbation. Funny thing is, I've written 100s and 100s of songs, quite literally, and yet I sometimes well sometimes I forget which ones I've written, and sometimes I feel like I could put such and so a song on, but then I'd feel stupid cuz it's not one of my best songs, but then again, what do you classify as best, anyway? It's possible that what you classify as mediocre poopwad music is other people's best, or favoritest, I should say, the types of music they might put on the radio. And sure, that'd be nice 2 B played on the radio, but it's possible that the only music you can get there is the kind that's all boring and stupid, and then how would you feel about yourself? How, man, HOW???????? I'm in a funky mood. I gotta take stock, or take stalk, for that matter and think about just what songs I've written and the like.

Me and my bandmate played a show in our incarnation as DeadPan Alley a few weeks ago, and that was nice, man. But it's funny, cuz the song that everybody in the audience liked, we didn't really expect. I mean, we thought people'd like it fine, but we didn't expect such a huge response to it. It's cuz it was a funny song, you know, about how freakish your ex boyfriends can soemtimes be and that's nice enuff, I guess. I mean, people identify with songs about freakish ex-boyfriends.

The funny thing is that one song, The Devil is Dead, I don't think that'll ever get much of a response from audiences, even though as soon as I wrote that song, I felt like it'd be okay if I dropped dead tomorrow, cuz I've written the song I've been meanin' to write for ten million years, man. It's a 5-sided song, and that's a nice thing, too, cuz if you put 12 of them together, you get a dodecohedron, and that's a good thing. That's a very good thing. It made me think, and now I'm gonna sound unintentionally narcissistic here, it made me think o' Mozart and how, at least in the movie, Amadeus, he was very unpopular in his time, cuz his music was ahead o' his time. and the same with Van Gogh, how he was all unpopular, too, and never sold any paintings, and the like, and I wonder if a similar thing is true of that old dragon song. Then I think to myself, I don't think there'll ever be a time when this song becomes all popular and stuff, unlike old Mozart and Van Gogh, because, well, it's a song about a dragon, after all. I mean, dragons are fairly timeless. This song don't belong to any particular time, although it might belong to a particular time if it was in another dimension. But not of this world, not of this world, this song is not of this world, and neither am I.

Indecisive Girl Rides Again

I ain't gone away, just so y'all know; I'm just having trouble deciding what to post next. It's a toss up between 1. a song that's not about masturbation 2. a song about a man named Baldavinos 3. a couple songs that are more in the deeply-personal realm that I might wait on, 4. a song about bein' drunk on sobriety or 5. a song about gettin' into trouble with a security guard. Oy, so many choices, so many choices.

I put 2 new links over there-->, y'know. But, they ain't friends or shameless self promotion. They's just sites I like (the cheezburger one and the coyote one). Just so you know. I didn't want people to think I was pretending to be friends with them, when the fine folks who do those sites don't know I exist. They really don't know I exist. When you think about it, most people don't know I exist, cuz I'm not famous or anything. That's fine, though, because this is such a crazy-ass, fucked up world that it's better to be invisible, cuz then you're not a target.

East Coast Boy. (Click here to listen). I started writin' that there fine song, um, about, what was it? 1998? Oh, holy FUCK, that's 10 years ago!!!! Man, I'm old. It was originally titled "Seals" and I was never too happy with it, cuz even though it had this totally kick-ass verse, the chorus didn't go with it. They didn't match up. That was back in the days when I wasn't as disciplined about my songwriting as I am now. I usedta just be all loose and loopy, and if the different song-parts didn't match up, that was okay. Now, I try to get myself to stick to a theme throughout the song.

Me and my bandmate worked for a while at coming up with a chorus, and we found that an instrumental chorus worked best. So, there it is. Yay!

Oh, yeah, I also made it so 'nonymous commenters can comment. I'm not sure if I'll leave it that way, cuz my brother's blog allows it and some anonymous dude comes along and poops all over the comment page sometimes. We'll see, man.

Oh, here's the link to our bandy's myspace page, man.

East Coast Boy

The new song for the week is called East Coast Boy . It's actually a recording by my band, Deadpan Alley! I'll stick a link in to our myspace page so you can listen to our other tunes. Some of you may know us as Knockturn Alley; this is actually a group composed of the same members and all, but Deadpan Alley is more indie rock than wizard rock. We're looking for a drummer. Or maybe just someone to bang on pots and pans. That's right, man, that's right.
