She's Not Drinking Anymore/Verdell's Death Song

This one requires some explainin'; letsee if I can keep it short. See, when Verdell dies of stuff related to his alcoholism, he gets to Heaven, and he hears his death song. But rather than what one might expect, it's an uplifting(ish) song about a girl who stops drinking. It's like, huh? How can that be the death song of a dude who was all into drinking when he was alive?

In the song, Corky and Verdell rap back and forth, both trying to puzzle out what the deal is with that song. But, then, Verdell thinks back to his childhood, and remembers when he first heard the song in his head. At that point, he'd asked his grandpa why that was his death song. Grandpa had no clue, either, but suggested to Verdell that he should just let the mystery of it be just that - a mystery.

(None of the stuff about Grandpa or the death song is in the movie [see below]; it's totally made up).

See, a parallel process happened to me, in the writing of this song. The week that I was planning on recording Verdell's death song, this song came to me in a dream. I was all, "huh?" I was just as confused as Verdell when that song came to me and told me it was Verdell's death song. But this album is almost entirely composed of songs from dreams - I let the dreams write the album cuz I was too lazy to make up songs, myself. So, in respecting the Dream that gave me the song, and the song itself, for that matter, I recorded it, along with Verdell's "what the fuck" sentiments. That's fine that he had "what the fuck" sentiments, because so did I.

As usual, here's what last week's song sounds like when you turn it around backwards.

For anyone new to this blog, the album I'm discussing is based on the movie, Skins. (Spoiler Alert)... It follows this character, Corky Red Tail, into the afterlife cuz he gets murdered in the beginning of the movie. Then he's joined by Mogie and Verdell, who both die of alcoholism in one way or another. The three of them work together to try to get a message to Corky's mom that he's okay in the afterlife. The most likeliest candidate to do that is Rudy, Mogie's brother, because all three of them knew Rudy when they were alive, so they're all connected to him in one way or another.
