Song that Characters Sing on Page 37

Here's a wee excerpt of a song that shows up in Volume 1 of my graphic novel, oh yeah. I haven't published it yet, but I wanted people to hear what the song sounds like, cuz when the characters sing it, you only just see the words, and you don't hear what the melody is like. The rest o' this song ain't ready for prime-time yet, so I just posted a li'l snippet of it.

'Course the part that the characters sing is kind of quiet in this recording, so you sort of have to listen for it. If you've read far enough in the novel, yes, the Timmy and Bobby in this song are the same people as the characters that show up toward the end of Volume 1.

From A Dream

I know this isn't a song,  but it's something I got from a dream. I dreamed of a comic book about an alien planet, where there was a sharp division between the rich and the poor. The long caption says: the middle rich dude was considered to be uncommonly handsome because he had a straight nose, which is not so common on this world.

There've been a couple instances in my life when there's been bad stuff, like, really super bad stuff. But then outta that bad stuff comes a song, and the song is sort of like God tapping me on the shoulder and saying, yes you're going through a really hard time, but I'm still here. 

Damnation Alley

This song's about a bar of soap that talks and is psychic and predicts the future. It's about being damned. 'Course I totally stole the title from this movie from the 80's about nuclear war. I feel a little bad about stealing that particular catch phrase, but then again, I sort of don't care. It's funny how, as I get older, I don't care that much about plagiarism more and more.

Or no, wait, it's not plagiarism. I'm just making a reference to that movie.

And They Would Never Stop

This here's a sad song about a laptop computer. It's about a year and a half old, but I didn't get the nerve to publish it till just about now. It's my attempt at techno music. Well, actually, it's my attempt at fusing techno music with regular music. All the drum sounds and stuff are things I sampled and mixed together in SoundEdit. Nifty. The song's called "And They Would Never Stop," although I had considered calling it "Sad Laptop Song."

An Oldie But An Oldie

I'm not sure if I spelled "oldie" properly. But anyway, that's what this song is. It's 10 years old, yeah. Or, it'll be 10 years old sometime in the fall. It's one of those post-break-up songs. Break-ups can be pretty good inspirations for songs.

This here song's about aliens who have a different color spectrum on their planet. They don't have as much yellow as us.

Elevator To Hell

I initially started writing this song way, wayyy, wayyyyyyyyy back in 1993. The thing is, it sounded nothing like how it sounds now, cuz I forgot what it sounded like. At the time, I was going for that shoe-gazing variety of music that some people tended to like so much back then.

So, I re-did it, with sort of a nice, liturgical sound to it. The song's about an elevator that takes you to Hell, and it ain't very clear just how nice, or not-nice, it is to be takin' this elevator that goes to Hell. Well, actually, it doesn's seem all that bad, now that I think of it. It's sort of a Heavenly version of Hell. Really, I should stop blathering now.

This song is 13 years old, oh dear lord. 13 years, and it seems like yesterday that I wrote this here song. Actually I have no memory of writing or recording this song in its original incarnation, 13 years ago. But I randomly found it on a tape about a year and a half ago, and thought, wow, I like this song, but I don't like the vocals in the recording. So I re-recorded it today, just for kicks. I mean, I kinda like the old vocals because I sang with some conviction, but it sounded to much like I was trying to sound like David Byrne.

It's a song about a dude, who's kinda lonely, and he cain't find his violin. It's broken. It's a very sad (but upbeat) song.

Another Vampire Song

Okay, this picture has nothing to do with the song, but I couldn't figure out how to illustrate it. This song's about vampires that, well, suck blood, the way they do. It gets them high. It might be an addiction, but I'm not sure yet.
