I initially started writing this song way, wayyy, wayyyyyyyyy back in 1993. The thing is, it sounded nothing like how it sounds now, cuz I forgot what it sounded like. At the time, I was going for that shoe-gazing variety of music that some people tended to like so much back then.

So, I re-did it, with sort of a nice, liturgical sound to it. The song's about an elevator that takes you to Hell, and it ain't very clear just how nice, or not-nice, it is to be takin' this elevator that goes to Hell. Well, actually, it doesn's seem all that bad, now that I think of it. It's sort of a Heavenly version of Hell. Really, I should stop blathering now.

This song is 13 years old, oh dear lord. 13 years, and it seems like yesterday that I wrote this here song. Actually I have no memory of writing or recording this song in its original incarnation, 13 years ago. But I randomly found it on a tape about a year and a half ago, and thought, wow, I like this song, but I don't like the vocals in the recording. So I re-recorded it today, just for kicks. I mean, I kinda like the old vocals because I sang with some conviction, but it sounded to much like I was trying to sound like David Byrne.

It's a song about a dude, who's kinda lonely, and he cain't find his violin. It's broken. It's a very sad (but upbeat) song.

Pitch Correction, Oh Yeah!

Download Pc2 copy I experimented some with pitch correction, ha ha ha. Well, no, not really. SoundEdit has this thing where you can change the pitch of whatever you select. So, I just sang one note over and over, and then changed the pitch to make the melody. (It's real tricky, too, cuz it slows down or speeds up the notes when you change the pitch, so you gotta go back and change the tempos of the notes to make the melody have the right timing). So, yeah, I was trying to see if I could replicate (and make fun of) that robotic sound people go for, in pop music, with pitch correction.

Download Selling dreams More fun with "pitch correction." The dudes singing the uh-uhs, again, it was just one continuous note, and I went into Sound Edit and fucked around with the pitch.

Download Principal man I did this song quite a while ago, but was too lazy to post it. It's not about anyone, in particular. There was this principal guy on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and I started writing a song about a principal, in general, cuz I didn't know this guy's deal.

'Kay, I wasn't sure when I was gonna post this one, cuz this song's, y'know, near and dear to my heart, and the like. I think I was in somewhat of a shamanic state o' mind when I wrote it.

But, yeah, like, then I found out today there's gonna be this song-writing contest, not too far from where I live, and it's for Earth Day, and you're supposed to submit "green" songs. This is about the greenest song I've written thus far in my life. It's green-ish.

But, I wanted to post it here to run it by people who come here to get their valued opinions about if this is song-contest-worthy, and the like. I think it's worthy, cuz I like it a lot, but I dunno if it's contest-worthy in the popular-kid sort of way, y'know.

The bushes in the picture aren't as big as trees like the ones in the song, but I don't think I have any pictures of bushes that big, man.

Anthropomorphic Kitten

I got this song from a dream a few weeks ago. I dreamed that me and my brother found this little kitten and she peed all over me! Then the little kitten started acting like a person. In the dream, I started writing a song called "Anthropomorphic Kitten," but when I woke up, I didn't remember what it sounded like. But I tried to replicate how it sounded, and this is how it came out.

I tried to find a picture of my kitties looking anthropomorphic, but I dunno if they ever really look anthropomorphic, cuz they're so cat-like. This is about as close as I could come.

Lizard Man

This is a really old song. It was...what year was it that I wrote it? 2003, okay, yeah. It's a song about a memory (but I sorta took artistic liberties with the memory). It's one of those M4A files cuz when I downloaded the songs from the CD onto the computer, that's the kind of file it made.

It's probably easier to hear the lyrics of the song if you play it on tinny computer speakers, cuz in regular speakers, the bass-ish-ness of the song sort of overwhelms the mix. But, you know, when I mixed it down, years ago, I was in sort of a bass-ish mood, and the like.
