Picture for Song of the Week

Alrighty, I got un-lazy enuff to make an illustration for Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs .

This is kind of cool how it turned out, cuz I was originally intending on makin' these stick-figure animals look like those old, old cave drawings that archaeologists sometimes find. But, the cool thing is, they look sort of like constellations. Neato.

Here's an animal for you.

Here's an animal picture 4 U, but it ain't directly related to the song, cuz it's not a deer, dog, wolf, or rat. It's a vaguely phallus-shaped rooster I had a dream about a few weeks ago. There ya go!

Hybernation

Dang, I've been 2 lazy and/or busy to do much in the way o' artwork this week (although the poonums in a box is really nice). I've been feelin' gooder than ever lately about my music, but a few nights ago, the music in me decided to take a vacation. It just sort of up and left. Strange-o, man. I mean, it actually feels dead right now, although I think, more accurately, it's gone into hybernation. My novel's moved 2 the center stage for the time-being, which is fine with me, cuz I gotta finish the thing sometime. Not to worry! There'll be plenty o' songs-of-the-week, cuz I gots me a ton from the past. I ain't even counted how many I have (it's just a matter of pickin' out the ones I want people to hear). Man, I'm tired.

Mustard

I've been thinking about mustard lately, cuz it is the most vile substance known to man. And yet, although I cain't eat things with mustard in them because of the disgustingness, I really like stuff like Thousand Island dressing and Caesar salad dressing, where you can taste that hint o' mustard. It's like having that hint of vile substance gives you this interesting experience that's kind of cool and edgy. My friend who has a blog about perfume (the link over there that sez Smell the Glove) tells me that they put stuff in perfume that's really stinky, like whale barf and cat's butt scent to give it that little edginess and depth and stuff. I've been thinkin' o' that cuz I like to have that in my music, too, the dissonance that comes in and outta the harmonies, and the darkness and light at the same time. I like the tension between major and minor and the songs where you cain't tell if it's major or minor. I like the fact that the music in Obvious Distinctions is so pretty and the words are hugely dark. Okay, gotta go!

Poonums

Here's a picture of an animule to go with a song about animules. There's something so magical about animals that humans just don't seem to have, man. Remember that tsunami that came along a few years back? The animals knew it was a-comin' and hid from it, but the humans were dumb and didn't. That's cuz we all depend on our logico-rational problem-solving part of our minds. It's funny, cuz we need that part o' the brain to build houses and stuff, but it's also the part o' the brain that doesn't have any access to magic, none at all, man.

When I was a kid, I wanted 2 B an animal cuz I thought humans were ugly and boring. Not much has changed since then, except for the fact that my animal of choic has evolved from an alligator to a sweet little poonums kitty.

Moony, Wormtail, Padfood, and Prongs

The next song is called: Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs , and similar to the previous one, it's fresh off the cooker (It's only Saturday-old).

It's a wizard wrock song that my band's gonna play. If ya don't know Harry Potter, this song's about this dude named Professor Lupin, and he's a werewolf. This song's supposed 2 B during his teenage years, when his friends learned how to turn into animals, so they could all run around on those full-moon nights. The dude would have this intense physical pain when he turned into a werewolf, that, I guess, motivated him to bite people, but havin' his friends as animals to hang out with made it nicer and less painful and stuff. That's sorta what the song's about.

I was in the Kool-aid....

Well, I mean, it's supposed to be, like, a little person that looks like a skull in a glass of Kool-aid, but I dunno if it's easy to tell. I dunno, man. There's a small one, too, cuz I realized I wanted black background, instead, but I couldn't get rid of the white background one-poops.

Autorhythm

As half-heartedly promised, here's the Casio autorhythm that I put thru effects for Obvious Distinctions . It's kinda cool, man, when you think about it, those old things from the 1980's. Yeah, man, yeah.

Casio Keyboard From The 1980's (Man, I'm Old)

I sorta like the illustration below, cuz it's got this death-like stillness that goes with the song. That's kinda cool. If you ain't listened to obvious distinctions yet, it might be a good idear to listen to it before you read the rest o' this entry. The beat in it? Y'know? Hah, it's kind of funny, cuz it's really this cheezy little Casio-Keyboard-from-1984-Autorhythm. Maybe I'll make a sample for you to listen to. I put a microphone up to the speaker of my little Casio-from-the-80's keyboard, and put it through this really kickass effect on Little Larry (my digital 8-track). That made me happy. It's fun when your experiments create cool results.

Obvious Distinctions

Here's an illustration for the song, Obvious Distinctions. I mean, the stone circle probably should be ontop of a pile of bones cuz, like its foundations are paved outta bone, but I liked the contrast of the whiteness of the bones against the greenness of the ground. The bones look kind of like wrenches, but I had trouble drawing them so that the knobby parts on the ends didn't look like testicles.

An Act of Convenience

Download obvious_distinctions.mp3

Oh, mannnn, I'm breaking my own rule o' not releasing or playin' stuff that's too new for other people 2 hear. And this one is brand new. But, when I looked at my little disky-drivey thing this morning, this was the only one of the 3 songs I'd mentioned that was actually on it, man. So, yeah, here it is. I was really really really really really depressed last week, so I wrote a song, and that's how it came out. I kinda like the combination of the pretty/mellow nature o' the song and the darkness of the lyrics. It's dark and light at the same time, which is something that I drive for sometimes.

Monday, March 17, 2008

Dang, I hear that sometimes this blog don't allow you to post a comment. Dang! I'll have to poop around and see what's going on with that. My apologies to all who've tried and haven't been able to.

The next song of the week, oh my. I'm SO indecisive right now. I could do a song called "Drunk on Sobriety," "Go to Hell, Breathe, Fuck You," or "Obvious Distinctions," which is brand new. Hmmmmm. I usually have a rule that I don't release brand new stuff until I've digested it a bit, but I really like this brand new song. I like the other 2, too. Drunk on Sobriety is kinda cool cuz it fits in with the whole drug-use theme from last week. But, then again, I'm pretty confident wait,. Gotggoa go

More Shtuff about the Stoners of Dartmouth

I was writin' out the lyrics, but I'm gonna have to listen to the song to see what order they're in. And I'm having trouble remembering them, too. Which is a sort of stoner thing to do, you know, forgetting things. I started writing the song the day after Christmas, I think it was, in 2006. My nephew got a nice li'l toy piano for Christmas, and I was playin' around with it, entertaining the kid a wee bit (until he got bored). I realized what I was playin' could be turned into a song, so that's where the keyboard part came from. The rest o' the song just sort of naturally evolved from that.

The Stoners of Dartmouth

Whoops, yeah, there were technical difficulties; sorry 'bout that. But, I just fixed 'em. You can now listen to

the stoners of dartmouth

Yesiree. I'll supply lyrics later; I'm too tired today.

There's that building I was trying to draw the other day (with a Stoner of Dartmouth in front of it).

The Stoners of Dartmouth

Download stoners_of_dartmouth.mp3

Here's the new song of the week, but I don't know if it'll work, cuz I encountered a dumb technical difficulty at the site where I'm storing this stuff, and this dumb computer doesn't have a dumb media player installed. Dumb.

Coming Soon: The Stoners of Dartmouth

This week's song is gonna be The Stoners of Dartmouth, but i don't have an MP3 of it on my little disky-drivey thing, so I'll have to do that tonight. But, I drew a picture to whet your appetite. This mouse is ass and makes it hard to draw, but at the same time, these really clumsy pictures make me laugh cuz they're so primitive. It's supposed 2 B a picture o' Baker Library at Dartmouth, with pot leaves in front of it. I don't remember what Baker or pot leaves look like.

It makes me laugh cuz it looks like a barn with a big phallus on it.

I wanted 2 put 1 more illustration for the Sin City song before callin' it a week. Thanks for visitin', everybody who visited!

I'm all about the Jungian psychology cuz it sez that you cain't have light without dark and vice versa. I practically stole that line up there from good old Ursela LeGuinn and her fabulous book, "The Left Hand of Darkness." I'm cool with it, though. If ya try to be all light and not embrace your dark side, you go cold and dead, and creativity just plain dies, too. And when you think about it, creativity is a very God-like quality, so God dies in you when you kill the devil in you, man. I wanna figure out what it's like to live on that razor's edge that happens between things, betwee light and dark, good and evil, existence and nonexistence. I sorta feel like that razor's edge is where everything happens, man, and yet, it's so infintesimally small, that it feels like it isn't even there. But, it's a powerful place to be, man. It's got the power of lots and lots o' nuclear bombs, and the like (but I see the explosion as gold light, for some reason). I'm sorta makin' all this up as I go.

What Next? Argh.

Yeah, man, what else can I say about this week's song of the week? Both

Sin City

and

The Devil Is Dead

feel like breakthrough songs, and I'm sort of worried about what I'll post next. I mean, consider this; I've been waiting to write a song like The Devil is Dead since I was 16,a song with that particular type o' magic I've been lookin' for. I always wondered what would happen when I reached my goal o' writin' a song like that, cuz it's one of those life-long unachievable feelin' goals, and now I've done it. It feels like I should drop dead, or my head'll explode, cuz it's something that seems 2 good 2 B true. But, you know what? It's not like everything in my life has turned wonderful or anything. Ah well. But in a sense it sort of has cuz there was an explosion of gold light when that song happened, and the gold light keeps on going, and that's a nice thing.

Man, but what to post next? I know what it's gonna be, but, man.
I mean, I intentionally frontloaded some real good songs on this so people'd come back and keep on listening. But, man. I hope people don't get bored or something.

More notes on Sin City

Wow, man, I cain't find a way to make that picture bigger with Jesus on it. It's supposed to get big if you click on it so you can see the lyrics.
When I did that song, I started out playin' largely dulled guitar strings that go back and forth between your ears, if you're wearin' earphones, because i wanted to put myself into a trance with it. I didn't really get into a trance, though, and I decided to add more stuff (a lower guitar note and voices). That was kinda cool. But I didn't get into a trance, though.

Sin City

This week's song of the week is called:

Sin City

I thought I'd keep up with the whole God/Devil/Jesus theme for 1 more week. In this song, I'm tryin' to sound all evangelical, alongside some weird, experimental stereo effects.

If you haven't heard it, though, listen to

The Devil Is Dead

cuz I really like that one.
